Library News

We have a new Database for you!

Check out our new addition to our database line up.  It's a great resource for students and casual users.  Whether you are involved in a research project or just want to browse historical photographs, news stories important to Native America or contemporary leaders, you will find something of interest. The American Indian Experience (AIE) is a full-text digital resource exploring the histories and contemporary cultures of the indigenous peoples of the United States.  Link to it here http://aie.greenwood.com or find it under Bookmarks, then Article Finders!
Designed, developed, and indexed under the guidance of Loriene Roy, the first Native American President of the American Library Association, and a team of American Indian librarians and scholars to meet the needs of teachers and their students, librarians and their patrons, researchers and the general public, The American Indian Experience offers access to an online library, featuring more than 150 volumes of scholarship and reference content, hundreds of primary documents, and thousands of images. From Pre-contact to the present day, from the Inuit of the north to the Seminoles of Florida, AIE is meant for anyone wishing to learn more about America's Native Peoples.

CELLPHONES AND QUIET ZONES

New this semester is the addition to the library of CellPhone Free Quiet Zones Upstairs in the library.  SGU Students requested that parts of the library be designated as Quiet Study Areas and that they be free from the sounds of cell phones ringing and buzzing and especially from the noise of cell phone conversations.  We listened.......THEREFORE:
The QUIET ZONE has been designated as all of the library seating upstairs in the open area.  If you are seated up there and really need to take/make a call, PLEASE move to the small room at the east end (formerly the UNK or Indian Room).  In this way, you can still respond to urgent phone calls without disturbing other students, staff members and library users.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Welcome Back Students! (or just plain "Welcome" to all our new students!)

We're glad you're here and we want to help you have a great semester.  If you are not familiar with using our website here are some quick pointers to help you get started.
1.If you need to find a library book: go to the tab on this site that says catalog.  You can log into our online catalog with your library card number and last name or just click in as a "guest".  Search for books in our library by selecting Sinte Gleska University from the dropdown menu towards the top of the screen.  Search by title, author or words anywhere.
2.  If you are looking for journal articles online: click on the Bookmarks tab then select article finders.  A list of our online databases will appear.  Use any of them anywhere on campus right on the spot.   If you are off campus, you can still use them by typing your library card # as your username and the 1st eight letters of your last name as your password.
Still not sure what to do?  Ask for help at the front desk or call us at 856-8112.

Federal Websites for Tribal/Tribal College Libraries

We are pleased to include the newly revised Federal Websites for Tribal Libraries and Tribal College Libraries website online at the following web address:
http://www.oklibshare.org/ieclinks.htm

The purpose of this website is to highlight federal government agency websites that serve American Indians or focus on American Indian issues, such as the Indian Health Service and the Bureau of Indian Affairs; or have significant American Indian content in them, such as the CDC and the Minerals Management Service.

Each entry is now accompanied by a description, and where needed, user notes. Since our primary customers for this website are our nation's tribal libraries and tribal college libraries, you will also find entries that don't include specific tribal information but are important for tribes, such as SAMSA and the National Suicide Prevention Hotline.
This website is designed and maintained by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries
